5 KCPE Candidates Drowned few days to start their National exam

Arap Moi Primary School in Tarakwa, Uasin Gishu Country mourned the death of 5 candidates scheduled to sit for their KCPE on 30th October 2023. This was after the boat they were  in drowned.

Police report showed that a group of grade six and class eight learners at around 5pm, had visited an amusement park in Eldoret.


The students were accompanied by their teachers. However, had a boat riding season where they took turn in boat riding in a man-made lake accidentaly one of the boats capsized.

It was reported that, a grade six pupil, survived the incidence and was rushed to Moi Referral Hospital. The pupil was recorded with low acute oxygen.

Police reported that, “Only one of those who were in the boat and who is a class six pupil survived.”

Kenya Red Cross Society together with the fire brigade team managed to retrieve the bodies of the diseased and were moved to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital Moutuary (MTRH).


Approximately 1.4 million candidates are expected to seat for the anticipated national examination scheduled 30th, 2023. The scheduled exams will run for 3 days, grade six  are expected to sit for their Kenya Primary School Edducation Assessment (KPSEA). While class 8 candidates will sit for their Kenya Certificate Primary Examination (KCPE).
